Caviar gift ideas for the ultimate foodie
The best caviar gifts are not big. They are a fresh tin of caviar, one or two good things to eat it with, and a reason to open it that night. Here are five ways to build one.
1. The classic: one tin and a bottle
A 50 g tin of caviar and a bottle of dry sparkling wine or Champagne. It is quick to put together, it suits almost anyone, and it needs no explanation.
2. The blini night
Add a pack of small blini and a tub of crème fraîche to the tin. Everything is cold, creamy and neutral, which is what lets the caviar shine. Our blini recipe is easy enough for a gift card.
3. The tasting for two
Give a 125 g tin with a mother-of-pearl spoon. A non-metal spoon is the one thing many people don't own, and it makes the first taste better. It also tells the recipient that you care about doing this properly.
4. The host gift
Don't bring caviar to a party unannounced, since it needs to stay cold and be served soon. Send a 250 g tin ahead so the host can plan it into the evening, with a note saying what you hope they serve it with.
5. The celebration
For an anniversary or a promotion, send a 125 g or 250 g tin by courier so it arrives on the day. With Opus you can add a note of up to 200 characters, and you can choose to keep it a surprise so the recipient hears from us only when the courier is about 10 minutes away.
What to leave out
- Flavored or heavily seasoned accompaniments. They compete with the caviar.
- Anything that can't stay cold. If you can't keep it cold, don't give it.
- A very large tin for a very small group. Caviar is best within 48 hours of opening.
